Speaking of racist expressions’ appearance in the news, my jaw dropped this mornng when someone from Pittsburgh posted this link on a hockey board I read. I can’t believe a respectable (I thought) news outlet like The Times used this STUPENDOUSLY inappropriate, racist noun in a headline.

I had to double-check to make sure I hadn’t been diverted to The Onion. I hope The Times’s inboxes get bombarded by emails that object to their choice of vocabulary.
What Fox news says doesnt scare me, what really scares me is that it’s the most seen news channel in the most powerful country in the blue planet…..and the reasons for that are most scary

If the term is racist, then shouldn’t you be directing your indignation toward the Left, and the LA Times? The term magical negro is a well-known archetype that appears in all sorts of fairy tales, films (including modern ones), journalism, and more. It is a deliberately ironic term. Shame on Fox News for hyping it (I haven’t seen the piece, so I don’t know for sure what they said) and shame on you for perpetuating the ignorance.

Showing my age here but when I was a kid in LA you could not go to the other side of La Cienega for it was ‘nigger town’ The term to me even as a young child was extremely offensive. Don’t think it was the words but the mental force of those who used it.
At the ripe old age of 24 I had to confront my father-in-law about his white man supremacy views. After a weekend with grandparents my 3 year old was chanting: We hate niggers. When I asked her if she knew what that word meant, she said no but Poppy hates niggers so do I. GRRRR … so I threatened ‘Poppy’ with never getting to see his grandchildren if he ever used that term again. He conformed and years later right before his passing, he called to tell me thankyou for calling him to task on that for his best friend during the last decade of his life was black. Something that never would have happened had I not stood firm in my firey youth.
As an adult I strived to help my own children understand the true meaning of the bible’s term: “We are all made in the image of God” Even moved around SoCal to get them into schools of mixed races; until I moved to Maui in 1980 and they got to experience a form of reverse discrimination that clearly left it’s mark on them for the rest of their ‘all humans are spirits just BEing in the world’ life.

Yes, it is a term. It is one that was coined during my teens when discrimination ran rampant and out of frustration came the Watt’s Riots.
Most people alive today would not remember that era. They could not possibly understand for they are hearing it second hand. It is my hope they learn from our history.
President Obama is a man of mixed races. As such he is representative of what the United States is today. Having gone to Punahou school in Hawaii, he was living and learning among many races. Here, in Hawai`i, we all respect each other. Not because of the color of our skin, nor because of the language we speak; respect comes from feeling what is in another’s heart.

I can’t believe how many people are buying into this headline and supposed evidence in that photo. What is being left out of the message that actually was displayed on the ticker? I guess THERE’S NO CONTEXT THAT COULD POSSIBLY EXPLAIN THAT FOX ISN’T A RACIST ORGANIZATION!! No, it is they who conceal their racism… Wow. I think this just shows how newsist some of you are.
