Obama Publicly Supports Iranian Protests, Yet Leads A Nation Who Considers Public Protesting “Low-Level Terrorism”

by Peter on June 20, 2009

This afternoon President Obama spoke out in support for the protesters in Iran.  The following comments were heard around the world:

“If the Iranian government seeks the respect of the international community, it must respect the dignity of its own people and govern through consent, not coercion,” the president said.

Martin Luther King once said — ‘The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.’ I believe that. The international community believes that. And right now, we are bearing witness to the Iranian peoples’ belief in that truth, and we will continue to bear witness,” the president said.

“The Iranian government must understand that the world is watching,” the president’s statement said. “The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights.”

President Obama should also consider defending the constitutional rights of his own people of the United States by condemning the US Government’s position (via the Department of Defense) considering public protests as “low-level terrorism”  As the ACLU letter below illustrates and as loyal readers of PeterSantilli.com are aware, this recent revelation that the U.S. government via the DoD, is seeking to commingle dissent and terrorism to their civilian employees is just the latest example of the government exhibiting hostility towards “We the People”.  If Obama dares to claim that he isn’t aware of the tyrannical practices of various government agencies, he doesn’t deserve to be the commander in chief of the United States.

“For the DoD to instruct its employees that lawful protest activities should be treated as “low-level terrorism” is deeply disturbing in and of itself. It is an even more egregious insult to constitutional values, however, when viewed in the context of a long-term pattern of domestic security initiatives that have attempted to equate lawful dissent with terrorism.”
