7 days ago a 7.0 earthquake hit Port Au Prince and devastated the city.
7 days later, we’re still hearing that doctors have no surgical supplies, no antibiotics, and no tent facilities.
7 days after the earthquake, we’re still hearing about problems with “logistics”.
7 days later, we’re still hearing about the lack of security.
7 days later, people of Haiti are not receiving food and water.
Let this be a huge lesson for all of us. The humanitarian disaster that is about to unfold in the coming days will likely claim more lives than the actual earthquake
Although the US could have shipped supplies prepared after the Katrina event to Haiti, it appears we don’t have any. No lesson has been learned by our lack of planning & preparation for the Katrina disaster despite billions spent for Homeland Security.
Each of us needs to plan & prepare for a natural disaster, or cataclysmic failure of our infrastructure. We all know it will come, whether you live in California, Florida, New Orleans, New York, or any other city in America. With the current state of our financial system, every town in America will be impacted by a total collapse of our monetary system.
To ignore preparation is ludicrous. After Katrina and Haiti, we as humans should have learned that we are on our own for 1-2 weeks after a major disaster.
Planning for water, food, sanitation supplies, medical supplies, and essentials of living will never hurt us.
Failing to plan would be a tragedy.
