The Deleware State Police arrested Democrat Senator Darius J. Brown on May 18, 2021 after DSP Troopers obtained warrants for Brown’s arrest. His charges are “Offensive Touching” and “Disorderly Conduct” which are both misdemeanors. Why was Senator Brown not charged with assault or domestic violence? One does wonder if his charges are being minimized due to his special privilege status as a politician?

DSP reports:

“On Sunday May 16, 2021 at approximately 6:20 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the Taverna Rustic Italian Restaurant, located at 3549 Silverside Road, Wilmington, for a report of a domestic altercation. When the troopers arrived, they were contacted by a 44-year-old female victim who informed them she had been punched in the side of the face by Mr. Brown after the two of them began arguing about a social media post. After he assaulted the victim, Mr. Brown got up from the booth where they were seated and threw a glass of water, which broke into pieces. Mr. Brown then exited the establishment prior to the trooper’s arrival. The victim sustained some redness to the side of her face but did not require any medical attention.”

“Troopers from Troop 1 obtained warrants for Darius Brown’s arrest for Offensive Touching and Disorderly Conduct, which are both misdemeanors.”

“On Tuesday May 18, 2021, Mr. Brown turned himself into Troop 1 and was processed and arraigned on those charges. He was released on his own recognizance with a no contact order with the victim.”

Brown a Democratic Party member of the Delaware State Senate, representing District 2 , assumed office on January 8, 2019. His current term ends on November 8, 2022. He won in the general election on November 6, 2018. Rep. Brown was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware and attended Howard High School. He earned his paralegal certificate from Delaware Technical & Community College and a degree in political science with Delaware State University. Early in Brown’s career he served as a community activist with Delaware ACORN and as an aide in the Delaware Assembly with State Senator Margaret Rose Henry. He later served as a project assistant with United States Senator Joe Biden.

Senator Brown was assigned to the Elections & Government Affairs Committee, Capital Improvement Committee, Veterans Affairs Committee, Joint Committee on Capital Improvement for the 2021 – 2022 period. According to Delewarepublic.org the Senator has been removed as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, after his arrest on Tuesday following the alleged altercation at the North Wilmington restaurant last weekend. President Pro Temp David Sokola announced the decision Thursday. He says “I believe this step is necessary to allow the Committee to continue its critical work without distraction.”

As of the writing of this article Senator Brown still sits as Vice Chair for both the Elections & Government Affairs Committee, and the Veterans Affairs Committee, while he also remains on the Capital Improvement Committee and the Joint Committee on Capital Improvement. Brown is currently chairman of Delaware’s Legislative Black Caucus and has been subject to controversy in the past. One does wonder if or when he will be removed from these positions? His alleged behavior is certainly not what any committee, nor Caucus should tolerate. It places a stain upon any committee or caucus that chooses to allow him to remain within their ranks. The people of America do not accept to this type of behavior, hopefully the Legislative Black Caucus and the Committees will not either. Abuse is abuse, no matter what side of the isle you stand on, and we must all unite to stand against it.

Brown is no stranger to conflict or criminal activity. On July 9, 2018 Delewareonline reported:

“Connections Community Support Services, Delaware’s largest behavioral health provider which has been criticized for its closeness to Wilmington politicians, said it will no longer employ elected officials and candidates.” Connections spokesman Adam Taylor said in a statement.

“The loss of employment for Brown and Shabazz follows a News Journal report that Brown, who is running for state Senate, has $60,000 in state and federal liens for unpaid income taxes.”

“In the story, Connections was put in a defensive position by explaining the problems occurred when Brown was a contractor in charge of paying his own taxes, not an employee with income withholdings.”

“As part of our ongoing review, we made a decision to no longer employ anyone with a potential conflict of interest, including elected officials or candidates who are running for public office, whose activities outside of work could cause a public perception that is contrary to our mission.” Taylor said

“Darius Brown represented council District 3 at the same time he was a registered lobbyist for Connections.”

According to Ballotpedia.org Brown served as a community activist with Delaware ACORN. ACORN was exposed in an undercover investigation by ProjectVeritas which prompted congressional hearings. “The now-defunct and disgraced Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) was a massive, unaccountable taxpayer-subsidized group that the Obama Administration was using to conduct the Census, register voters and sign people up for government programs. At its height ACORN had over 500,000 members and more than 1,200 chapters in over 100 U.S. cities.” Project Veritas ACORN has been the subject of FBI and DOJ investigations related to fraudulent registration cards. The Obama Justice Department, while noting that ACORN had engaged in “questionable hiring and training practices,” closed down the investigation in March 2009, claiming ACORN broke no laws.” Judicial Watch

Calls for Senator Darius Brown to resign have began. ” Delaware Senate President Pro Tem Senator Dave Sokola released the following statement when this news broke this afternoon: “Accusations of domestic violence are serious and in direct conflict with the values of the Delaware Senate Democratic Caucus.  However, a presumption of innocence is one of the most sacred principles in the American criminal justice system.  I will carefully consider whether any formal actions are warranted in the coming days as we learn more about this incident.”

Here are my two cents: if the allegations are true, Senator Darius Brown must resign. If you act like that in public, God knows how you act in private. And if you act like that in public, you do not deserve to be in any elected office ever again.”

Brown previously served as a project assistant with United States Senator Joe Biden.

At what point will Americans stand up and say no more? When will the people stop accepting individuals by voting in representatives that have a history of criminal activity and questionable connections to criminal organizations? How can anyone be shocked by his current charges when looking into his background? Better yet, how is a man that was a former community activist for ACORN now sitting as Vice Chair on the Delaware Elections & Government Affairs Committee?

Senator Darius Brown is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
