We reported on The Pete Santilli Show that the Supreme Court would likely rule on numerous cases within the next few days.\u00a0 We were right.<\/p>\n

The Supreme court decided against New York\u2019s law that includes strict rules for concealed carry in the state.\u00a0 Prior to this ruling, the state could decide who it wanted to have this right and who it didn\u2019t.\u00a0 We reported on this case moments ago:<\/p>\n

New York requires its residents to obtain a license for lawful possession of a firearm, regardless of whether they plan to keep it at home or take it outside. To obtain a license, a licensing officer must determine whether the applicant is of good moral character, lacks a history of crime or mental illness, and that \u201cno good cause exists for the denial of the license.\u201d<\/p>\n

Applicants must also have \u201cproper cause\u201d to lawfully conceal carry a handgun\u2014openly carrying a handgun is entirely banned. New York law leaves \u201cproper cause\u201d undefined, but courts have clarified that this standard means one must \u201cdemonstrate a special need for self-protection distinguishable from that of the general community or of persons engaged in the same profession.\u201d<\/p>\n

Merely having the \u201cgeneralized desire\u201d to conceal carry, according to the courts, \u201cdoes not constitute \u2018proper cause.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Supreme Court just ruled on this case.<\/p>\n

ABC 7 New York<\/a> reports:<\/p>\n

The justices\u2019 6-3 decision is expected to ultimately allow more people to legally carry guns on the streets of the nation\u2019s largest cities \u2013 including New York, Los Angeles and Boston \u2013 and elsewhere. About a quarter of the U.S. population lives in states expected to be affected by the ruling, the high court\u2019s first major gun decision in more than a decade.<\/p>\n

The ruling comes as Congress is actively working on gun legislation following recent mass shootings in Texas,New York and California.<\/p>\n

Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for the majority that the Constitution protects \u201can individual\u2019s right to carry a handgun for self-defense outside the home.\u201d<\/p>\n

In their decision, the justices struck down a New York law requiring people to demonstrate a particular need for carrying a gun in order to get a license to carry one in public. The justices said the requirement violates the Second Amendment right to \u201ckeep and bear arms.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
