Former President Donald Trump warned Monday that \u201cthe temperature has to be brought down in the country\u201d or \u201cterrible things are going to happen\u201d\u00a0before\u00a0accusing the FBI of a \u201csneak attack\u201d raid on his Florida estate last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe country is in a very dangerous position,\u201d Trump told Fox News Digital<\/a> in his first interview since the Aug. 8 search. \u201cThere is tremendous anger,<\/a> like I\u2019ve never seen before, over all of the scams, and this new one \u2014 years of scams and witch hunts, and now this.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there is anything we can do to help, I, and my people, would certainly be willing to do that,\u201d\u00a0the 45th president\u00a0continued.<\/p>\n

Federal agents seized more than two dozen boxes of items, including 11 sets of classified documents<\/a>, from Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla.<\/p>\n

According to an inventory that was unsealed by a federal judge Friday, four sets of documents were marked \u201cTop Secret,\u201d the highest level of classification the government can give information; three were marked \u201cSecret,\u201d the second-highest level, while the remaining three were marked \u201cConfidential,\u201d the lowest classification level.<\/p>\n

Another set was marked \u201cVarious classified\/TS\/SCI documents,\u201d which is the abbreviation for \u201ctop secret\/sensitive compartmented information,\u201d a special category meant to protect the nation\u2019s most important secrets.<\/p>\n

News of the raid caused outrage among the former president\u2019s supporters, with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security warning this weekend of a spike in threats to law enforcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people of this country are not going to stand for another scam,\u201d said Trump, who claimed that he and his legal team had contacted the Justice Department and offered to assist in their investigation into whether the former president violated three federal laws dealing with government information.<\/p>\n

The former President told Fox News Digital that his team \u201chas not heard yet\u201d from the DOJ.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they would want the same thing\u2014I\u2019ve never seen anything like this,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is a very dangerous time for our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, the former president contended: \u201cThere has never been a time like this where law enforcement has been used to break into the house of a former president of the United States, and there is tremendous anger in the country\u2014at a level that has never been seen before, other than during very perilous times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump then lamented \u201cyears of fake witch hunts and phony Russia, Russia, Russia schemes and scams.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then they break into a president\u2019s house\u2014 a sneak attack where it was totally\u2014no one ever thought a thing like this would happen,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The FBI operation occurred as Trump is publicly mulling a third consecutive run for the White House in 2024.<\/p>\n

The 45th president reacted angrily to the raid, even suggesting that agents may have planted evidence during their search. On Monday, he claimed that the searchers told his team to turn off security cameras and remain outdoors while the raid took place.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey could take anything they want, and put anything they want in,\u201d Trump told Fox News Digital Monday. \u201cMy people were asked to stand outside.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the former president called<\/a> on the Department of Justice to return the seized documents, citing a Fox News report that at least five of the 27 boxes removed from Mar-a-Lago contained information covered by attorney-client or executive privilege\u200b.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh great! It has just been learned that the FBI, in its now famous raid of Mar-a-Lago, took boxes of privileged \u2018attorney-client\u2019 material, and also \u2018executive\u2019 privileged material, which they knowingly should not have taken,\u201d Trump said on his Truth Social site.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy copy of this TRUTH, I respectfully request that these documents be immediately returned to the location from which they were taken. Thank you!,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

The three statutes at issue ban the gathering, transmission or loss of defense information (a law commonly known as the Espionage Act); the concealment, removal or mutilation of documents; or the destruction, alteration or falsification of records in federal probes.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s team is arguing that the documents were in fact declassified, citing a \u201cstanding order\u201d the former president had while in office that deemed sensitive documents \u201cdeclassified the moment he removed them\u201d from the White House.<\/p>\n

Despite the claim, the New York Times reported this weekend that a member of Trump\u2019s legal team\u200b signed<\/a> a written statement during a visit by Justice Department officials in early June \u2014 two months before the raid \u2014 contending that all classified material once held at Mar-a-Lago had been returned to the government.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
