Here\u2019s an excerpt:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Throughout the course of the pandemic, officials and ministers wrestled with how to ensure the public complied with ever-changing lockdown restrictions. One&nbsp;<a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2021\/05\/14\/scientists-admit-totalitarian-use-fear-control-behaviour-covid\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">weapon in their arsenal was fear<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe frighten the pants off everyone,\u201d<\/strong> Matt Hancock suggested during one WhatsApp message with his media adviser.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The then Health Secretary was not alone in his&nbsp;<a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2021\/04\/02\/state-fear-ministers-used-covert-tactics-keep-scared-public\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">desire to scare the public into compliance<\/a>. The WhatsApp messages seen by the <em>Telegraph<\/em> show how several members of Mr. Hancock\u2019s team engaged in a kind of \u2018Project Fear\u2019 in which they spoke of how to utilise \u201cfear and guilt\u201d to make people obey lockdown.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As with the other revelations, it is shocking yet not surprising. We knew they were doing this, but there\u2019s something truly grotesque about seeing the contempt they had for people laid bare. The absolute disregard for freedom, and worse, the revelling in this exercise of power by the likes of Simon Case, the Cabinet Secretary, who found forcing travellers to quarantine in shoebox hotel rooms <a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2023\/03\/02\/matt-hancock-simon-case-quarantine-hotel-covid-whatsapp\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">\u201chilarious\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><a data-image-external-href=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/people-are-starting-a4df80642c-600x375.jpg?ssl=1\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/people-are-starting-a4df80642c-600x375.jpg?itok=zeEy4aZU\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"3a161cd2-08e3-4167-8566-6f7766e74ba2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/people-are-starting-a4df80642c-600x375.jpg?resize=500%2C313&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" width=\"500\" height=\"313\"><\/picture><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is a toss up between Hancock and Case for the title of the Lockdown Files\u2019 Greatest Villain. I was considering awarding it to the wretched Case until this latest round of files dropped, and Hancock went full Dr. Evil with his question: <strong>\u201cWhen do we deploy the new variant\u201d [sic].<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Screenshot-2023-03-05-at-01.42.11-1024x991.png?ssl=1\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Screenshot-2023-03-05-at-01.42.11-1024x991.png?itok=qFaFGW7O\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"fbba80f9-4fe2-4dd8-82b0-e02790d4c56f\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/Screenshot-2023-03-05-at-01.42.11-1024x991.png?resize=500%2C484&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" width=\"500\" height=\"484\"><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course we shouldn\u2019t let the unintentional comedy of Hancock\u2019s messages (one has him text shouting \u201cSOMEONE INSTALLED A CAMERA IN MY OFFICE WITHOUT TELLING ME!\u201d) distract from how appalling his actions were.<\/p>\n<p>How far Boris should be excused is another question. Throughout the Lockdown Files he shows his instinct for freedom, but lacks the courage to convert that into policy. This latest episode is no different, as the <em>Telegraph<\/em> reveals:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Boris Johnson, then the Prime Minister, had promised that families would be reunited at Christmas \u2013 the first&nbsp;<a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2021\/03\/14\/one-year-coronavirus-lockdown-did-boris-johnson-take-long-tell\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">since the pandemic struck in early 2020<\/a>. He said foregoing long-awaited reunions \u201cwould be inhuman and against the instincts of many people in this country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But behind the scenes, his ministers and officials were increasingly aware that vast swathes of the public faced a grave disappointment and that the Johnson administration would take the blame for their frustration.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The solution in December was \u201cto frighten the pants off everyone\u201d with a declaration of a new strain of COVID-19, known as&nbsp;<a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2021\/03\/30\/kent-covid-variant-no-deadly-original-strain-study-suggests\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">the Alpha or Kent variant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a conversation between Mr Hancock and Mr Poole on Dec 13th, the pair discussed how to survive the coming backlash and storm. On the day, there were 18,409 cases of Covid recorded and 410 deaths. Five days later, on Dec 18th, Mr. Johnson would&nbsp;<a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2020\/12\/19\/christmas-cancelled-16m-coronavirus-mutation-takes-hold-south\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">scrap his planned five-day Christmas amnesty<\/a>&nbsp;in an about turn.&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Every time I think I have hit peak anger with this ongoing saga, the messages reveal a new low.<\/p>\n<p>The bizarre power given to chancers \u201cSlackie and Lee\u201d (James Slack and Lee Cain in the Downing St comms team) to dictate policy; Simon Case\u2019s nauseating glee at imposing petty restrictions, and his characterisation of the desire to retain basic privacy around one\u2019s contact details as<a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2023\/03\/04\/tories-accuse-simon-case-left-wing-bias-covid-rules\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"> \u201cpure Conservative ideology\u201d<\/a>; Boris\u2019s claim that another lockdown would be the <a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2023\/03\/04\/boris-johnson-lockdown-sceptic-zealot-covid-whatsapp-cummings\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cheight of absurdity\u201d<\/a>, before immediately implementing it \u2013 I could go on.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>Hancock\u2019s brazen fear tactics, apparently divorced from any kind of scientific evidence, <em>deployed<\/em>, to use his word, with borderline psychopathic disregard for the impact they would have on people, is the worst finding yet in this already incredibly sordid tale.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3>ZEROHEDGE DIRECTLY TO YOUR INBOX<\/h3>\n<p>Receive a daily recap featuring a curated list of must-read stories.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>via www.zerohedge.com https:\/\/ift.tt\/wkq3Cn1<\/p>\n<p>March 6, 2023 at 05:29PM<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Hancock\u2019s Plan To &#8220;Deploy The New Variant&#8221; To &#8220;Frighten The Pants Off Everyone&#8221; https:\/\/ift.tt\/5jn3MxV Authored by Nick Dixon via The Daily Sceptic, The latest of the Telegraph\u2019s \u2018Lockdown Files\u2019 has arrived, and impressively it is even more damning than the previous instalments.
