US President Joe Biden ordered the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines because he was unhappy with the level of support provided by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh has claimed.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hersh first accused Washington of destroying the key European energy route in an article released in February, and made more allegations in an interview with the China Daily newspaper published on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe [US] president was afraid of Chancellor Scholz not wanting to put more guns and more arms [forward for Kiev]. That\u2019s all. I don\u2019t know whether that it was anger or punishment, but the net effect is that it cut off a major power source through Western Europe,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Hersh claimed.<\/p>\n

Despite attempts by the US to deny its involvement in the Nord Stream attack,\u00a0\u201cEurope is in crisis now\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and Biden will receive\u00a0\u201ca lot of criticism for what he did\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in the coming months, the journalist argued.<\/p>\n

The Pulitzer Prize winner alleged that\u00a0\u201cthe people that were initially asked to do the job\u201d<\/em>\u00a0of destroying the pipelines were contacted by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan towards the end of 2021.<\/p>\n

The initial purpose of mining Nord Stream 1 and 2, built to deliver Russian gas to Europe through Germany, was\u00a0\u201cto give the [US] president an option to say to [Russian] President Putin, \u2018If you go to war [in Ukraine], we\u2019re going to destroy the pipelines,\u2019\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Hersh claimed.<\/p>\n

Biden himself publicly confirmed that stance but\u00a0\u201cunfortunately, those people in the Western press seemed to have forgotten,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the journalist stated.<\/p>\n

Just under three weeks before the launch of Moscow\u2019s military operation in Ukraine, Biden warned during a press conference on February 7 that\u00a0\u201cif Russia invades\u2026 there will no longer be a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

According to Hersh, the US leader decided to order the detonation of mines at the bottom of the Baltic Sea last September because the conflict\u00a0\u201cwasn\u2019t going great in Ukraine\u201d<\/em>\u00a0from a US perspective. There was\u00a0\u201cat best a stalemate\u201d<\/em>during that period, in what Hersh described as\u00a0\u201cthe American war that President Biden was so eager to support.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
